Wolf Trap & New Point Comfort Lighthouse Cruises
Mathews County is home to two historic lighthouses that highlight the region’s maritime heritage. Wolf Trap Lighthouse, a cast-iron caisson built in 1894, guards the hazardous Wolf Trap Shoals on the Chesapeake Bay. New Point Comfort Lighthouse, completed in 1805 and now standing on a small island due to erosion, is the Bay’s third-oldest surviving lighthouse. Though decommissioned in 1963, it remains a cherished symbol of Mathews’ coastal history.
